How do I set up Outlook Express?

Step 1 - Adding an account

  • Select 'Tools' and then 'Accounts' form the Outlook Express Menu bar.
  • Next, click on the 'Add' button on the right side of the new popup wind, and then' Email'
  • Enter a First and Last Name of the email account owner in the Display name field, then click 'Next'

  • Type in the complete email address assigned to this account.
  • Click 'Next'

  • Select 'POP3' from the dropdown box
  • The Incoming mail (POP3) and the Outgoing  (SMTP) share the same name mail.yourdomain.com (substitute yourdomain with the name of your domain.
  • Click 'Next'

  • Enter your full email address in the Account name field.
  • Enter your password in the Password field and check Remember Password.
  • Leave 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) Unchecked.
  • Click 'Finish.

Step 2 - Editing your new account
  • A few settings needs to be adjusted for your account to work properly
  • Select 'Tools' then 'Accounts' form Outlook Express's menu bar.
  • Make sure you select the 'Mail Tab'.
  • Find the new account you created (mail.yourdomain.com), click on the account, it will become highlighted.
  • Click the 'Properties' Button.

  • Verify that the 'General Tab' is select (usually selected by default).
  • Type in your full email address in the top field, this will make this account easier to recognize.
  • The rest of the fields are self explanatory.
  • If you want Outlook Express to automatically check for new messages when the program is started, check the 'Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing' box

  • Select the 'Server' tab.
  • aDigitalHost suggests using your ISP's SMTP (out going mail server), however if you choose to use are (and you are more than welcome to) enter mail.yourdomain.com (this replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name) in both the incoming and outgoing fields.
  • Your account name is the FULL email address. 
  • If you are using our SMTP Server to sent outgoing mail, you must check 'My server requires authentication'

  • Default Outgoing Mail (SMTP): 25
  • Default Incoming (POP3): 110
  • Recommended Server Timeouts: 2 minutes
  • Recommend leaving 'Leave a copy of messages on server' unchecked.
  • Click the 'OK' button, and your email is now setup to use Outlook Express
